love these wire sculptures from David Oliveira. don’t they look like sketches hanging in midair?

after formal training in sculpture at the faculty of fine arts in Lisbon, the sculptor went on to win 1^st prize for the Young Artists of Aveiro Award in 2009. in 2010, he was granted the premium revelation D. Fernando. Oliveira is known for his unique wire sculptures, which create the illusion of hand-drawn ink sketches. the sculptures are often suspended from the ceiling by invisible filament to appear hovering in midair.  

the most interesting aspect of Oliveira’s wire sculptures is that their illusory effect primarily relies upon the brain’s poor capacity to understand negative or empty spaces, unless those spaces are associated with similar objects or images from memory. fascinating- it shows that art (like many other things in our environment and the world around us when analyzed from a psychological standpoint) is largely dependent upon the viewer’s perception and not solely upon the vision of the artist. ever wonder how a single work of art can mean so many different things to different people?
